          To Whom it May Concern:

I've been Michael Smith's manager at XYZ Engineering for almost four years. It was my pleasure to promote Michael to mechanical engineer last year, because he consistently meets and often exceeds his job requirements.

Michael is an enthusiastic, dedicated employee with reliable work habits. He often does not need guidance or supervision, but willingly accepts it when offered. He is consistently successful in improving his skills, and he works hard to do so.

Michael is always willing to pitch in to help the team, and he gets the job done right the first time. He is efficient in planning projects, punctual in meeting deadlines, and conscientiously adheres to company standards and guidelines.

You'd be hard pressed to find an employee more dedicated than Michael, and I recommend him as a rock-solid addition to your engineering staff. If you'd like more information, I'd be happy to provide it. Please call the phone number above and ask for me by name.

          To Whom It May Concern,

I'm writing this reference letter on behalf of Betty Yang. I have been Betty's supervisor for four years at Nanjing University. During these four years, I have watched her rapidly advance from an entry-level position to a senior one. I've never hesitated to recommend her for promotion when positions became available.

Betty derives satisfaction from helping our customers troubleshoot problems. Many of those who have received help from Betty specifically ask for her if they need to contact support again, and for good reason: She's professional, courteous and quick to help. She is skilled and tackles problems without prompting. I often see Betty in our lab before or after work hours, working on problems.

Betty is a team player who is always willing to share her knowledge with others. For example, thanks to Betty's willingness to share the trouble-ticket notes she so meticulously recorded and compiled, our department was able to create a

step-by-step online troubleshooting guide for our field engineers. Consequently, we've seen an increase in customer satisfaction, a reduction in complaints, and significant savings for the department.

I have nothing but good things to say about Betty and I would strongly recommend her for any endeavor she chooses. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need any more information.

          To Whom it May Concern:

Scott Smith worked for me at XYZ Technologies for three years as a senior technical instructor. I am writing this letter to confirm that his recent layoff from XYZ was not in any way tied to his performance, and to highly recommend him as an employee with your organization.

Had I been given the choice, I would not have laid Scott off. But it was not my decision to make. XYZ decided to withdraw from the PC market, balance expenses with the anticipated reduction in sales revenue, and hire a consulting firm to

evaluate long-term staffing needs. As a result, XYZ drastically reduced the size of its workforce by dissolving the entire PC division, including the technical training

department. Unfortunately, this major reorganization left no other position open for Scott. We regretfully had to let him go.

Scott is a conscientious, highly skilled technical instructor, worthy of at least a senior management position. He has keen insight into the learning process, and is an expert in needs analysis, project management, course development, and classroom instruction. Scott's in-depth product knowledge, unique instructional techniques, and excellent people skills have consistently received rave reviews from his students. Should conditions at XYZ change I wouldn't hesitate to hire him back. If you would like to speak to me about Scott's skills, talents and work habits, feel free to call (123) 555-0002 or page me by dialing (123) 555-0003.

A letter of recommendation is a valuable job-hunting tool. (Also called a letter of reference.)

For example, it's no secret that employers often use the cover of legit layoffs (合法裁員) to get rid of undesirable employees. If you get laid off, it might raise the

eyebrows of an interviewer or two. Was it because you were among the ranks of the undesirable or simply because your job was eliminated? A letter of recommendation that praises your performance and explains why the termination wasn't your fault might come in handy.

          雇主通常很愿意接受一封推薦信而代替去查閱關(guān)于你的更多信息。

For another, a letter of recommendation might speed up your hiring process. It takes more time to grill one of your references by phone or mail than it does to read your letter of recommendation. It also eliminates the risk that your reference will be unreachable, or might do a poor job because he or she was busy. All it takes is one

          Recommendation Letter

          Dear Sir or Madam,

It is my pleasure to recommend Xingyao Lu for her application to further studies in your school. I am her English teacher when I knew her. And at the following teaching classes, she had gave me a deep impression. She is one of my favorite students whom I had taught in this school.

Xingyao Lu has been more than the ideal student. In order to achieve the highest grades and my deepest respect, she has demonstrated outstanding learning potential and maintained a clear sense of purpose.

Xingyao Lu often came up with creative ideas. Unlike some other students, she studied not to just pass the exams but to really improve the knowledge and English skills. To help quench her thirst for knowledge, I have recommended many reading materials to her, and she finished them quickly and nicely. I think she is a very intelligent young student.

          Dear Sir or x x x:

I take great pleasure in recommending Ren Ren, one of my favorite students, for admission into your distinguished graduate program.

Mr. Ren was admitted in 1986 at 14 years of age into the SPECIAL CLASS for the GIFTED YOUTHS, my university 's unique program that caters to the intellectual needs of unusually talented Chinese youngsters. It was a rare privilege he earned with his nearly impeccable完美的 academic performance through the years of his elementary and secondary school.

He impressed me almost as he entered into my university, a major cradle of China' s scientific and technological talents. At the time, members of the Gifted Class all had to spend half a month studying by themselves the principles of calculus and then take an exam so that we could evaluate their self-study capability. Mr. Ren scored the highest grade in that exam. He also exhibited a keenly whetted mind during class discussions. To my regret at the time, his English was not as good as his mathematics or physics. But I noticed he made a point of working especially hard in improving his English during his five undergraduate years with us. By now, he seems to be at least as proficient in English as most of his former classmates in the Gifted Class.

In my experience with Mr. Ren, I was impressed with not only his extraordinary intelligence but also his ambitions and persistence. I am sure that Mr. Ren will be an outstanding student in any doctoral program that he may care to enroll in. So I would like to support him firmly in his quest recommendation into account when

considering his application. I would greatly appreciate it you decide to accept him as he wishes.

[Mrs Chen] now intends to engage in further study of [infrared spectroscopy, and laser spectroscopy] in particular. If possible, [she] would like to do research work under the direc-tion of [Professor Li Gang] whose distinguished attainments are well-known.

Not only I myself but also my colleagues in [the Physics Department of our

university] shall deem it a great favor if you will give [Mrs Chen Ping] assistance and guidance during her study in your university.

          Yours truly,

          [signature]

          To Whom It May Concern:

It is my great pleasure to recommend Miss Lili Zhang to you, as she was one of my finest students in our department.

Miss Zhang began attending my English classes in the Department of International Trade University in 1992 and graduated in spring of 1996. Though it has been over eight years since I last saw her, the deep impression she made on me has not faded in the least. She is very intelligent, honest, creative, articulate, adaptive person. Her high academic achievement speaks for itself: she consistently scored in the top 5 in class. I am certain that Miss Zhang would make great contributions to your company, and I strongly recommend her for the position. Please do not hesitate to inquire further if I can be of help to you.

University of International Business and Economics

          Beijing 100029, P. R. China

          Sept. 28, 1998

          Dear colleagues:

This is to recommend Ms. Shan Shan, a graduate from this university’s department of International Business Management, for acceptance into your MBA program.

I have known Ms. Shan as a resourceful and goal-oriented individual since 1990,

when she attended a lecture I delivered, at which she asked perceptive and

challenging questions. Although she did not officially take a course with me, she

often consulted me on issues arising out of her studies. I therefore have come to know her well. I feel strongly that Ms. Shan’s unusual talents and abilities will stand her in good stead for a quality MBA education, which should serve as a major boost to her career.

While at this university, Ms. Shan was an outstanding student, boasting excellent performance in all subjects of her studies and demonstrating great potential. Her overall GPA ranked her among the top 3 in her class of 40 students. But Ms. Shan was no bookworm devoted exclusively to exams. She read extensively in subjects outside her major, particularly in business law, marketing, finance and journalism, all of which seemed to be fascinating to her. In recognition of her intellectual strengths, the department offered, at the time of her graduation, to accept her into its graduate without the normally mandatory examinations. She, however, turned down the offer.

A highly independent woman, she already had her own agenda set. She wanted to obtain practical management experience first and then proceed to pursue a Master’s Degree in Business Administrative in your country. She apparently made the right decision, for she has since become one of our most successful graduates in her crop of students.

Ms. Shan is good at communicating in both oral and written English. Some of he most important undergraduate courses were taught by American professors, many of whom considered her oral English as native and her written English as standard. I am sure that she has since improved her English a lot more in her professional life.

In Ms. Shan, we all saw an optimistic and easy-going character. With highly unusual determination, she is not to be daunted by any difficulties. She believes that, with hard work, she can achieve anything she wants. I think her confidence in herself is well grounded in her track record, especially when considering the fact that she entered into this university as the daughter of a most impoverished family, but graduated as a top student.

Judging by what I know of her, I think Ms. Shan is fully qualified to pursue an MBA degree in your program. I therefore recommend her with enthusiasm. And I shall greatly appreciate if you can favorably consider her application for admission and financial aid.

          Yours sincerely

          Dear Admissions Committee,

          篇五:英文推薦信范文

          Dear Sir:

It is my pleasure to recommend Mr. Fuping Wang for his application to graduate studies in your school. Mr. Wang has been my research assistant of the National Science Council's project- "The United States and the United Nations' Financial Crisis: The Role of U.S. Congress" since September 1997.

His major responsibilities include information collecting, analyzing and translating. He is an enthusiastic and progressive young man with extremely high potentiality. Mr. Wang is not only quick at learning and good at solving difficult problems, but also with a logical mind that enables him to effectively analyze difficulties. All the work handed to him was completed satisfactorily. Actually, he is so reliable that I assign him with heavy responsibilities.

With his help, I have been able to spend more time in writing the research paper. I really consider myself very fortunate to have such a capable assistant. I am certain his diligence, coupled with a good competence and pleasant personality, will assure him of academic achievements in his future academic pursuits. I strongly recommend his admission without any reservation.

          Sincerely yours,

Chung Weikuo Research Fellow and Professor The Institute of European and American Studies
