我居住的城鎮(zhèn)的優(yōu)缺點(diǎn)托福作文 1
Every place has its advantages and disadvantages, including my hometown. A newcomer to my town would find not only several things to enjoy, but also a few drawbacks. Among the good points of my town are the friendly people. The residents here are very kind and will make a new neighbor feel welcome. Also, my hometown is very convenient. Stores and businesses keep long hours and the public transportation is very good. Last but not least, there are many places to spend leisure time in my town. They range from cinemas and pubs to public parks. Whatever a newcomer’s interests might be, I believe he would find something to enjoy in my town.
Unfortunately, there are also a few things about my town that a new neighbor probably wouldn’t like. For example, because it is a crowded place, it is often noisy here. Someone who is used to the peace of the countryside may be disturbed by the sound of traffic. In addition, life here is very fast-paced and competitive. Most people do not have many opportunities to just take it easy. A newcomer might find the pressure difficult to deal with. And finally, because I live in a big city, it is necessary to travel to the suburbs of the countryside to really experience nature. But despite these disadvantages, I think that anyone who moves to my town will find much to enjoy. In conclusion, we should all concentrate on the benefits our living environment provides?

In the east of China, there is a small city——Haimen. I was born there. Today,I am telling you about my hometown. Haimen is not far from Shanghai. It’s at the mouth of the Changjiang River.
Haimen is a modern city. There are lots of high buildings in it. Most of us live in flats. We like to live in flats because we can be close to our friends. In the center of Haimen, there are many shops. You can buy some nice things here. Things in most shops aren't expensive. You can pay a little money and they are yours. My hometown is a beautiful city. On each of the roads, there are some big trees and nice flowers. The roads are also very clean. They make people happy and comfortable. The seasons here are very nice. I like autumn best. It’s neither hot nor cold. A poem says "Flyer of summer come to my window to sing, then fly away. And yellow leaves of autumn, which have no songs, just fall there with a sign." It's very cool.I love Haimen. It's a nice place to live.
Welcome to my hometown.

It is important to deal with the rubbish in cities. Rubbish must be treated properly. Otherwise it may cause a lot of problems. It may pollute the air and water. When people breathe the polluted air or drink the polluted water, they may get iii.
Our city has begun to pay attention to the problem. As far as I know, some rubbish is sorted and sent to different factories. Rubbish, such as old newspapers and glass, is recycled.
Some harmful rubbish is sent to a certain place and buried.Waste air is cleaned before it goes into the air. Waste water is treated before it is poured into rivers.
To protect the environment, the government has passed laws to prevent people from throwing rubbish everywhere. We should do our best to take good care of the environment and fight against pollution.

City cleanness is the symbol and reflection of the civilization of that city. it is obvious that if one comes to a clean and bright city, he will have a comfortable feeling and will be in a joyful mood. on the contrary, a dirty and polluted city may drive him away. so the deanness is very important to a city. but how can we get it?
Te key lies in the citizens'awareness of the importance of deanness. citizens are the owners of their city. if everyone dwelling in the city keeps the city clean enthusiastically just as they keep their house clean, then streets will become cleaner and cleaner, buildings brighter and brighter, and consequently, the city will surely become more and more beautiful.
Some measures must be taken to keep our cities clean. for eample, we should set a limit to noises and ehaust gases, and invest in the planting of trees and flowers. moreover, some education and punish ment are necessary too. i believe in the future our city will become more beautiful gardens in a common effort of all the urban inhabitants.

Now, the degree of urbanization has been deepening and we enjoy the convenience brought by urbanization.
How does everybody know how the cities began? Long time ago, the world had only a few thousand people.
These people moved from place to place, hunting animals for food. No one knows how or when these people learned about growing food.
But when they did, their lives changed greatly. One thing is certain that they gathered in the rich place or near water.
In that age, water and climate are the most important to lives.
It is the rich water and comfortable climate that gathered people from different places.
They began to live near one another, so that the first village grew. Many people came to work in the villages.
Then the villages became bigger and bigger.
When machines were invented, life in the villages changed again. Factories were built.
There were a growing number of people living near factories. Because of the increasing people, more and more buildings were built. And then cities were built.

With industries and business developing quickly, the number of trees in many big cities has dramatically reduces. Efforts are being made to prevent people from cutting more trees. But a lot of trees are being destroyed by people who have never thought of the importance of green plants.Making cities greener has many advantages. First, it can make our air cleaner. Some researchers have proved that trees can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through absorption. Second, it can make our cities more beautiful. With trees and flowers everywhere, living conditions can be improved.
Finally, it can produce timber----an effective way to solve the problems of limited supply of natural resources.
Making our cities greener requires nationwide efforts. People in every field should not only know about the importance of keeping the quality of urban environment, but also take common action to plant more trees and flowers so as to improve our living conditions.

Do you want to live in the city or the country?
I like to live in the country that the sun rises in the morning with the first golden light & the first sound from the cock.. All the animals & plants begin their life from this moment on and some of the animals begin their sleeping the new day. This is a very beautiful beginning in the world that you just can see all these in the country not in the city.
And for people , the people in the country are kind although they are ungrace-ful .that is not important that you will feel what is the realest in the friendship of people.
Are people kinder in the city or the country?
The people live in the country is kinder than the people live in the city . this is so sure that I just feel all this from my grandparents . My grandpatents both are country people. Their family is poor that they even do not have more money after they finish all their meals.but my mother was so so interested in studying. My grandparents got five children & gave the choice to study to allof them .

The shortage of housing in big cities is one of the most serious problems of modern living. Increasing numbers of people are finding it difficult to conduct normal family and work duties because they either have nowhere to live or their houses are inadequate. This is a problem that requires an urgent solution because it leads to social unrest and economic inefficiency.
Some people suggest that the solution to the problem is to build more high-rise apartments, others are in favor of underground housing areas. I prefer the first idea, because it is cheaper to build above ground than below. Besides, people prefer to live in the open air and see the sunshine.
The second idea is not practical. One reason for this is that it is dangerous to construct living places under streets and buildings. Another reason is that it would take too much time to carry out, and in the meantime the number of people waiting for houses would increase, thus making the problem worse.
Those interested please contact as either through email.

in recent years there has been a marked growth of fire accidents in big cities of our country. almost every day we see fire engines rushing through the streets. fires have not only resulted in heavy economic losses but also injured and killed many people.what are the causes of fire accidents? most of the fires are brought about by carelessness and violation of fire safety regulations. others are due to the poor quality of home electrical appliances. by the way, some people dont know how to use them properly. besides, there are quite a few businesses which focus so much of their attention on profits that they tend to neglect and even ignore fire precautions.
in my opinion, in order to prevent fires we should first of all foster peoples sense of fire prevention. the second thing we have to do is to increase the number of professional fire fighters, to whom regular training courses should be offered. finally, we are to improve the eisting fire engines and add more fire facilities to high-rise buildings. in this way, a reliable fire prevention system will be formed.

Modernization and urbanization bring both benefits and problems. In order to solve the problem of housing, high-rise buildings have been and are being put up in ever greater numbers in more and more big cities.
High-rise buildings have their advantages and disadvantages, of course. In urban areas where land is expensive, they take up less space. Some people say that high-rise buildings can give a city striking beauty. Some buildings are apartments, which can house hundreds of families under one roof.
On the other hand, high-rise buildings may be dangerous. What if there is a fire or an earthquake? What if power and water are in short supply? In addition, high-rise buildings/blocks may not be suitable for children and old people.
To conclude,it goes without saying that high-rise buildings are necessary, but their number should be limited. At the same time, effective measures must be taken to solve such problems as the supply of water and power.

Nowadays, motorcycles are popular around us. They have become an important means of transport in Chinese cities. Compared with the bike and the car, the motorcycle has its own advantages. First, it is quite flexible. When there is a traffic jam, it can go through the cars that are held up in the street. Besides, it doesn't consume much petrol. Most important of all, it can carry another person at the back.
But every coin has two sides. The negative aspects are also apparent. To begin with, it's very complicated to get qualified fur riding a motorcycle. You'll have to go through a series of procedures to get a riding license. Furthermore, the maintenance is expensive. Worst of all, it costs a big sum of money to pay fur the license plate, especially in big cities.
In conclusion, it has both favorable and unfavorable aspects. However, if the authorities concerned simplify the procedures and reduce the cost of the license plate, the motorcycle will be accepted by more people.

Living in a city has many advantages. It is often easier to find work. There are always many choices of public transport. Besides, there are a lot of interesting things to do and places to see. You can eat in good restaurants, visit museums, go to cinemas and go to parks whenever you want to relax. There are more and more cities increasing in the world. It means our economics increasing day by day.But today I would like to talk about the good sides and the bad sides about living in the cities.
1、There are a large education resources ,so you can get a better education tha in little towns or villages. This is one of the most important things for many people.
2、the traffic in cities is more convenient. You can go somewhere by plane、subway、bus or taxi. But there comes one problem:traffic in cities is getting worse. We always say a teribble traffic to someone when we are late for a date.

Among the three cities, what I like best is City B.When we choose a city to live in,I think we should consider safety and climate first.Saety is the most important factor for citizens. If our safety can't be ensured,il is not difficult to imagine what the result will be.On the other hand, climate is also very important.Good cliraate will benefit our health and make the environment beautiful and comfortable.
Of course,we couldn't ignore the other factors about the city.such as emploument opportunity, entertainment and so on.But these, are not as important as safety and cli mate.As long as wc have good oducation and strong abilities,it's no problem to get a good job though the cmployment chances are slim.
From the above chart,we can see that Cily B has the best climate and belier condition in safety among the three cities.City A.though its safely is botter than city B,has the worst climate.Though City C has the best ernployment opportunity and entertain ment, the safety in this cily is the worst.Wire it left,me to choose,I should not hesitare a moment to live in City B.

The challenges of studying abroad
Nowadays, with globalization making the world more interconnected, a trend of accepting higher education has been on the rise. There are many students considering studying abroad, and here are some of the challenges they may confront with.
The first one is being exposed to a totally exotic environment. People who studied abroad will be open to everything new and strange. On social level, they also meet a diverse range of counterparts. Sometimes it is no easy to become the ice-breaker.
The other challenge may come from their family, or to be specific, the oversea students will be more likely to be homesick, especially for those who are in their first year, and their parents will share that feeling with them.
Besides, we shall not forget the obstacles of culture and language. It is quite often that even if they can understand every single word, they will still fail to grasp the true meaning.
Despite all these challenges, there are still great amount of people choose to study abroad, because great challenges always come along with great opportunities.

The challenges of starting a career after graduation.
Nowadays there is a growing concern over starting a career after graduation for the newly graduates. For years, the society has witnessed that a growing number of newly graduates remain unemployed after graduation, and the challenges may as follows:
First, students upon graduation may be overwhelmed by the social reality that their majors are not so correspond to the real work. Especially for the liberal arts graduates, because it's challenging to transfer theoretical knowledge into practical use.
Then, the newly graduates will have to face the challenge that most companies would prefer to hire employees with working experience. It is true that many students graduate with zero experience.
Besides, the high living expenses after graduation, taking rent as an example, is another great trial that can’t be overlooked.
There is sufficient evidence to show that starting a career after graduation is certainly challenging. But for the newly graduates, they still need to stay optimistic. The long life path is still at its beginning and the great challenges always come along with great opportunities.

As the saying goes that life is a journey, a journey of the unknown. Some complain the adversity of living, while others praise the wonder of experience. As far as I am concerned, life is beautiful, not only for its enjoyment, but especially for the twists and turns.
Life is beautiful because it enables us to grow up. As a student, from primary school to university, I learned a lot and became mature. School life is designed for us to receive knowledge, while in fact, it can do far more than that. Life here is important for us to become civilized and to develop humanistic value. Apart from learning knowledge, we entertain ourselves, making friends, playing games, and brodening our horizons.
Life is beautiful because it is uncertain what is to come. The future may be grant, but at the same time, it may be bleak. What determines here is to what extend we work and how hard we prepare ourselves. Young as we may be, we have an expectation for the future. In the process of fighting for the realization of our dreams, we are savoring the beauty of life.
Life is beautiful, let us do something wonderful for future memories.

Many people appreciate the conve niences of the city. The city has better transportation service and health care. City dwellers can easily enjoy themselves in restaurants, department stores and con cert halls. They are well-informed about what is going on at home and abroad, and have the access to better education, better jobs and more opportunities for business.
But country life is also attractive. With the fresh air, the green trees and the singing birds, country people are close to nature and live a quiet life. They can make friends with simple and honest men or wander about leisurely without any pressure upon their mind.
Both the country and the city, however, have their own disadvantages. In the country, educational facilities, medical services and transportation systems are still not fully developed. And the city also has many problems, such as heavy traffic, air pollution, great noise and poor housing conditions.
As far as I'm concerned, I hate the terrible dirt and noise in the city. So, given the chance, I would prefer to live peacefully in the country.

many things have been done and great progress has been made in the greenization of our cities in recent years. many trees have been planted and much care has been taken of the planted trees.
but, in spite of all this, greenization in the cities in china is far from satisfactory compared with cities in other countries in the world. for example, the green space for every people in shanghai is only 2 square meters while that of the people in london exceeds 20 square meters.
we can benefit much from the greenization of our cities. first, trees absorb carbon dioxide which is harmful, but produce oxygen which is essential to human beings. secondly, with trees all around, our cities will look more beautiful. thirdly, trees can improve the climate of the cities, making it neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.
since we can get so much benefit from making our cities greener, we should spare no effort to do so. we should plant even more trees and take even better care of them while they are growing. besides, we should not cut down trees any more. in a word, we should do everything to add to the greenization of our cities.

My favorite city in the world is Auckland, New Zealand. It is one of the world's best cities for living, also known as the "City of Sails" and the Queen City. There are many harbors, beaches, oceans and mountains, among which is the famous Rangitoto volcano.
If you like history, you can visit the Auckland Museum, the Auckland War Memorial Museum, the New Zealand National Maritime Museum and so on. If you like shopping, then go to the Queen Street, Parnell Road, and Ponsonby Road and enjoy yourself. If you like nature One Tree Hill, which is named for its lone tree on top of the hill will not disappoint you.At the foot of the hill, there are crowds of sheep and green grass. All is truly the Newzealand countryside style.
If you want to learn about Auckland's education, you can visit the University of Auckland. It's one of the most famours universities in the world.Founded in 1883,it has two campuses, sometimes you have to take a bus to go to different colleges
Auckland is an English-speaking country, so if you want to visit there, you'd better learn some English, or you‘ll have to take a transator with you.

Li Jiang, which is a small city in the Yunnan province, is one of the most beautiful cities where I have visited.
Three years ago a friend and I take a short-time tour in Li Jiang city for about five days, in fact, we spent quite lots of time on the way because Li Jiang is far away from our hometown, however, we took a train there in order to enjoy the nice scenes along the route. That decision finally turned out to be worthy, the high mountains and cloudy between the mountains impressed us deeply, all these landscapes are quite different from those of my hometown.
The famous view spot in Li Jiang is its Old Town. It is said that the treasurable aspect of its old town is that it is an alive ancient city. There I found that it is so natural and harmonious that people live in those ancient-style buildings, which seems that situation exists all the time and never takes any chances. My friend and I really value the city’s orderly system of waterways and bridges, we walked along the small river and took so many pictures on these bridges. We even wanted to live there for several months if the time and condition is allowed.

Our modern city is too crowded, and to solve the problem, three proposals are put forward. Most people believe that we should fist practise the policy Late Marriage and One Couple, One Child in order to reduce the birth rate. Secondly, the city government must have a tight control over rural people entering cities to engage themselves in trade or do various physical jobs so as to lessen the pressure on the city caused by the increased population. Finally more and more people suggest that living blocks with shopping centers, schools, hospitals as well as cinemas and theatres round them or even satellite towns should be built in city suburbs or the countryside round the cities. In this way city citizens will be encouraged to move there to live and work. If these three proposals are well carried out, the city population will be greatly reduced.

as can be seen from the chart, ownership of houses in beijing has significantly changed in the 1990s. in 1990, 75 percent of the houses were state-owned. five years later, the ratio of state-owned houses to private ones was 60 to 40. but from then on, the ownership changed dramatically and by the end of the century, 80 percent of houses were private.
there might have been two main reasons. one of the reasons was the policy of the government. in the 1990s, china carried on with its reform policy and the government called for privatization of the state-owned estate. but it took time for the reform to come into effect. but from 1995 on when people have recognized its significance, the reformation took bigger steps. another reason was that the people were getting better off and they could afford buying their own houses.
such changes have had great impact on individuals as well as the society. on one hand, the individuals must save money to buy an apartment or to pay the mortgage. on the other hand, a heavy burden has been taken off the government so that it can take more effective measures to improve peoples life.

Nowadays, it’s hard to imagine how often you are a victim of traffic jam. As is shown in the picture, the road is crowded with hundreds of cars and buses, turning it into a huge parking lot.
Why is the traffic so heavy these days? The reasons are complex. On the one hand, with the fast development of our economy and living standard the number of vehicles is rising sharply. Worse still, the road condition needs improving badly. Having been in use for many years, our traffic system is now out-of-date.
When it comes to the solution to this problem, I have 3 suggestions. Above all, the government must take immediate measures to improve the road condition. New tunnels and overpasses must be built and old roads must be broadened. Besides, local government must improve the public transportation system. Finally, citizens must be encouraged to reduce driving and make more use of public transportation. Thus, not only can we relieve the pressure of transportation, but also we can contribute to environmental protection.
In short, both the government and citizens must take on their own responsibilities. Only in this way can our transportation become more efficient.

Great changes have taken place in a worker’s family from 1988 to 1993. The average worker income has increased from 560 yuan in 1988 to 880 yuan in 1993, more than 50 percent higher. Since there is a remarkable increase, the way in which the average worker spends his income has also changed accordingly.
Workers spend more money on food and housing, especially on articles for daily use, which shows that their material living standard is rising rapidly. Their spending on clothing remains the same from 1988 to 1993 and their expenditure on fuel in 1993 is only half that of 1988. They are not satisfied with the present condition any more. They long to live a more comfortable and better life. It is clear from the table that as incomes increase people can afford to live more comfortably and eat better.
However, the money they spent on entertainment is very small, only 2% to 3% of the total income, which shows workers in City X go to cinema or theater once or twice a year. This condition will be changed soon. Now more and more money will be invested on education, and as the income increases, the living standard will rise gradually.
