Protecting the Environment

　　There are still many problems of environmental protection in recent years. One of the most serious problems is the serious pollution of air, water and soil. the polluted air does great harm to people s health. The polluted water causes diseases and death. What is more, vegetation had been greatly reduced with the rapid growth of modern cities.

　　To protect the environment, governments of many countries have done a lot. Legislative steps have been introduced to control air pollution, to protect the forest and sea resources and to stop any environmental pollution. Therefore, governments are playing the most important role in the environmental protection today.

　　In my opinion, to protect environment, the government must take even more concrete measures. First, it should let people fully realize the importance of environmental protection through education. Second, much more efforts should be made to put the population planning policy into practice, because more people means more people means more pollution. Finally, those who destroy the environment intentionally should be severely punished. We should let them know that destroying environment means destroying mankind themselves.

　　Moreover, there will be far more pollution resulted from cars. Once a car started, it release huge amount of dirty gas and heat, which lead to great pollution and result in green house effect.

　　再者，由于私家車將會有更多的污染。一旦汽車起動,它釋放大量的臟氣和熱量，這會導(dǎo)致很大的污染和溫室效應(yīng)。

　　All in all, Chinese people should take public transpotation into consideration first。

　　To prevent the world from being polluted by cars, we have to make some changes in our lives. Americans, for example, have to cut down on the number of their total cars.They are encouraged to use bicycles, which are thought to help keep the air clean.

　　But this change does not come easily. A large number of workers may find themselves without jobs if a car factory cioses down. Thus the problem of air pollution would become less important than that of unemployment. Although cars have led us to a better life, they have also brought us new problems.

Long-distance trains have never been as common in the United States as they are in other parts of the world. Air-service provides a comfortable travel system. 　　The third reason is the most important one, though. The American spirit of inde pendence is what really made cars popular. Americans do not like to wait for a bus, or a train or even a plane. They do not like to have to follow an exact schedule. A car gives them the frecdom to schedule their own time, and this is the freedom that Americans want most to have.

　　第三個原因是最重要的。美國人的獨立精神是小汽車流行的真正原因。美國人不愿意等公共汽車、火車、甚至不愿等飛機(jī)。他們不想按照時刻表辦事。小汽車讓他們自由地安排自己的時間，這是美國人最喜愛的自由。
