Dear James, In today’s newspaper, I read about the recent events in your town and I am writing to extend my deepest condolences.
It broke my heart to see all those pictures of those whose homes have been destroyed in the tragic hurricane. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw a little girl crying on the roof of her house asking for help. I am really worried about you and your family, and all your friends there. I am crossing my fingers for you now in hopes that you are all safe and sound.
I can only imagine how difficult this time must be for you, and I want to extend to you my unwavering support. Our government and many nongovernmental organizations are initiating various campaigns to urge people to donate money and necessary things to send to America. I donated all my allowance that I have been saving for years.
I feel extremely sorry for this tragedy, and I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Please pass my concern on to your parents.

The environmental pollution is getting more and more seriously today. There is so much for us to think about when noticing so many plastic bags piled everywhere. The sky is not blue any more and the water pollution is getting worse as well. What makes me worry most is that many people have not realized what difficulty situation we are facing with. Acid rain from coal-fired power plants is reducing agricultural yields. Poor planning deforested the area in several years. For example, the Chinese cut down large quantities of trees in the early years, at the source of the yellow river, which led to the disappearance of big forests and terrible floods. As a result ，the Huangtu plateau which was once covered with grass and forests turned into barrens that supported fewer plants.
To protect the environment, I have had more vegetables than meat. When I finish washing the clothes, I usually use the water to clean the floor. If I see the dripping tap,I will fix the tap as soon as possible. I would rather choose cloth bag rather than plastic bag when I am going shopping. Otherwise, I have planted many trees.
I am firmly under the belief that we should protect the world start from ourselves. What we are suffering is only a small part of what the earth once suffered. If we don't take action to show respect to the environment, we will have to confront an increasingly awful situation. Measures should be taken to protect the environment on which we are relying.The government is supposed to explore renewable resource. Governments should forbid destroying vegetation, rivers and lakes, oceans, as and the atmosphere as well. More attention ought to be paid to ecological environment and sustainable development. Waves are the children of the struggle between ocean and atmosphere, the ongoing signatures of infinity. Rays from the sun excite and energize the atmosphere of the earth, awakening it to flow, to movement, to rhythm, to life. The wind then speaks the message of the sun to the sea and the sea transmits it on through waves -- an ancient, exquisite, powerful message.
These ocean waves are among the earth's most complicated natural phenomena. The basic features include a crest (the highest point of the wave), a trough (the lowest point), a height (the vertical distance from the trough to the crest), a wave length (the horizontal distance between two wave crests), and a period (which is the time it takes a wave crest to travel one wave length).
Although an ocean wave gives the impression of a wall of water moving in your direction, in actuality waves move through the water leaving the water about where it was. If the water was moving with the wave, the ocean and everything on it would be racing in to the shore with obviously catastrophic results. An ocean wave passing through deep water causes a particle on the surface to move in a roughly circular orbit, drawing the particle first towards the advancing wave, then up into the wave, then forward with it and then -- as the wave leaves the particles behind -- back to its starting point again.
From both maturity to death, a wave is subject to the same laws as any other 'living' thing. For a time it assumes a miraculous individuality that, in the end, is reabsorbed into the great ocean of life.
The undulating waves of the open sea are generated by three natural causes: wind, earth movements or tremors, and the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. Once waves have been generated, gravity is the force that drives them in a continual attempt to restore the ocean surface to a flat plain.
