Kids would be overexcited during Spring Festival, for the simple reason that they would receive “l(fā)ucky money”from their parents as well as other elderships.

According to ancient custom, the elder generations put a certain number of money in a red envelope, and give it to the children of the family, wishing that the children would grow up healthily and happily.

How to reasonably deal with those “l(fā)ucky money”is a serious question for parents and children alike. As far as I am concerned, two ways below are worth to be considered. One sensible way is to save the money for higher education. With the development of economic and urbanization, the petition is being more and fiercer. The demand of people with high degree is increasing, which means, the threshold for a “white-collar”job is higher and higher. Therefore, accepted into a college is viewed as a necessary and an initial step for a good job. Given the increasing cost of college education and postgraduate education, saving the “l(fā)ucky money”is at least an economic guarantees for higher education. The other way is investing, and by investing I do not mean buy stocks or bonds, but investing in self-improvement. For example, purchasing some books, literature, politic, philosophy, whatever you like.

As Bacon said, “reading makes a full man”, investing in books you are interested in would expand your knowledge and improve your attainment. However, not only books could attribute to self-improvement, art and sports or other skills could also do. Invest some money to learn piano, guitar, etc.; or to learn dancing, swimming, tennis…Or just to learn how to drive is a worthwhile acquirement. All in all, you could name other good ways to use“l(fā)ucky money” of course, as long as it is worthwhile, and saving for education and investing in self-improvement are definitely among them.

There is no doubt that money is very important, we can’t live without money. Most things we need to keep living are bought by money. Everybody works hard to make the ends meet. Money can satisfy people with they want, it seems that money is everything, but I don’t think so.

There is something that money can’t buy. The sense of happiness is one of them. Though with a lot of money, we can buy the big and luxury house, the sense of happiness is from the heart. If the person works very hard to buy the house and he has less time to stay at home, because he needs to pay the bill, then I don’t think he is happy.

For the poor people, though they don’t have much money, I see they live with laughter all the time. When I lived in the country, my life was simple. The food I ate was vegetables and sometimes I had the meat. I did not care much about it. When I moved to the city, I felt lonely, though I earned more money, I missed the country life.

Money is not everything, the happiness is nothing with money.

Money is important, but money can't buy anything. A miser may think that money is everything, but if you just focus on making money, you may lose a lot of things, such as health, friendship and love. I don't think we should take money as everything.

Money is just a tool that can help us solve problems or make us live a comfortable life. What we should do is use it properly, not become misers. In this way, we can all live a happier life.

Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a composition on the topic Can Money Buy Happiness? You should write no less than 100 words and you should base your composition on the outline (given in Chinese) below:

          2. 也有人認為金錢是萬惡之源 (root of all evil)

Can money buy happiness? Various people have various answers. Some people think that money is the source of happiness. With money, one can buy whatever he enjoys. With money, one can do whatever he likes. So, in their minds, money can bring comfort, security, and so on. Money, as they think, is the source of happiness.

But there are still a lot of others who think that money is the root of all evil. Money drives people to steal, to rob, and to break the law. A lot of people became criminals just because they were in search of money. And in the Western countries, there is nothing that can’t be bought by money. Many people lose their own lives when hunting it.

I think that money is essential to life and we cannot do without money. But even though money is necessary to life, it can’t buy happiness. Happiness is not something that can be measured by money. It is a state of mind. One can have plenty of money, with which he can buy whatever he wants, and at the same time he is not happy because he is never satisfied or he is troubled by various kinds of problems. Therefore, although money is necessary for a happy life, it can’t buy happiness.

once upon a time there lived a beautiful young woman and a handsome young man. they were very poor, but as they were deeply in love, they wanted to get married. the young people’s parents shook their heads. ‘you can’t get married yet,’ they said. ‘wait till you get a good job with good prospects.’ so the young people waited until they found good jobs with good prospects and they were able to get married. they were still poor, of course. they didn’t have a house to live in or any furniture, but that didn’t matter. the young man had a good job with good prospects, so large organizations lent him the money he needed to buy a house, some furniture, all the latest electrical appliances and a car. the couple lived happily ever after paying off debts for the rest of their lives. and so ends another modern romantic fable.

we live in a materialistic society and are trained from our earliest years to be acquisitive. our possessions, ‘mine’ and ‘yours’ are clearly labeled from early childhood. when we grow old enough to earn a living, it does not surprise us to discover that success is measured in terms of the money you earn. we spend the whole of our lives keeping up with our neighbors, the joneses. if we buy a new television set, johnes is bound to buy a bigger and better one. if we buy a new car, we can be sure that jones will go one better and get two new cars: one for his wife and one for himself. the most amusing thing about this game is that the joneses and all the neighhours who are struggling frantically to keep up with them are spending borrowed money kindly provided, at suitable rate of interest, of course, by friendly banks, insurance companies, etc.it is not only in affluent societies that people are obsessed with the idea of making more money. consumer goods are desirable everywhere and modern industry deliberately sets out to create new markets. gone are the day when industrial goods were made to last forever. the wheels of industry must be kept turning. ‘built-in obsolescence’ provides the means: goods are made to be discarded. cars get tinnier and tinnier. you no sooner acquire this year’s model than you are thinking about its replacement.

this materialistic outlook has seriously influenced education. fewer and fewer young people these days acquire knowledge only for its own sake. every course of studies must lead somewhere: i.e. to a bigger wage packet. the demand for skilled personnel far exceeds the supply and big companies compete with each other to recruit students before they have completed their studies. tempting salaries and ‘fringe benefits’ are offered to them. recruiting tactics of this kind have led to the ‘brain drain’, the process by which highly skilled people offer their services to the highest bidder. the wealthier nations deprive their poorer neighbours of their most able citizens. while mammon is worshipped as never before, the rich get richer and the poor, poorer.

The spring festival is the loveliest in China, which is comes in February. Everyone loves it so much that prepare lots of things of the spring festival before it comes. In the spring festival holiday, people do many things, such as eat the dinner on the New Year‘s, set off fireworks, stroll the famous fair likes “Baiyunguan” fair.

On the first day of lunar, the young generation congratulates the old generation with “Happy New Year!”

Then the old generation will give the young some lucky money which wrapped with red paper or red envelope. Because red is a color with joyful. Lucky money means the old generation‘s love to the young and hope them can have a good luck in this new year. This is the lucky money which lots of the young want.

With the development of economic and urbanization, the competition is becoming more and fiercer.

The Spring Festival this year, I also have a small number of year - old money. With such a sum of money, I want to make a dream round me: buy a skateboard. Mother disagreed, and I had to give her money to her to keep her, and I did not agree, so I tried to hide some of the money.

I took the gift money, locked the door of his room, looked around in the room, choose a few places, finally found a very safe place - bed. Although this place I choose well, but I want to plump drill under the bed, a little difficult, but in order not to let mother easily find my gift money, buy my skateboard, I was drilled into the bed, hidden gift money. After a few days, I don't worry too much about the money, taking the flashlight, drilling under the bed, looking at the money; looking right and right, I think it's not safe. So, I put the gift money to fill it out a little, feel relieved will come swaggeringly out of the room, since that didn't think my father went up to a seamless heavenly robe, asked: "I just took the flashlight to find what?" I answered: "no Huanghuangzhangzhang to what......" "Nothing?" Look at my dad suspiciously, walked into my room, lying on the floor, looking under the bed, I quickly jumped up, only after a while, dad laughed and placed in the bed of the gift money out. I was not willing, and put the money into a napkin in the box, this time dad did not find, I heaved a breath, temporarily relieved.

After all, it's not a way to do it. What if the napkin is used up? Hi! Yes, if the napkins are used up, I'll put the old money behind the frame and stick to the day when the skateboard is bought.

Dont save what is left after spending. But spend what is left after savings.

Wanting to save money is not enough. Anyway, there are a lot of things which didnt come true although you wanted them to.

Saving is a technique . Its simple. Its just not easy.

If you only come to think about saving after you spend, there is no chance for you to accumulate a considerable fortune, because spending is always irrational.

The way that works is to make plans in advance.

Would it be too much to use 40% of my income to rent an apartment?

Is it really enough to save just 20% every month?

Only by making it clear how much you want to save can you come to know how much you can actually spend.

          My View on Money

money is regarded by some people as the most importent thing in life. it is even regarded as the symbol of wealth and social position. for eample, with plenty of money a man can do whatever he wants to. he can afford epensive cars and luurious houses, and he can travel around the world and visit as many interesting places as he wants to. in their eyes, money is everything in life.

in my opinion, money can both benefit people and do harm to them. on the one hand, we cant deny that money is useful. we need money to buy food, buy a house or pay our education cost. money can make us live more comfortably. for eample, with more money, we can help others and take part in more social activities and receive a good education, thus increasing our knowledge and developing our skills. on the other hand, some people try to get money by dishonest means, for eample, they often cheat and gemble, even rob and kill people. sooner or later, they will be punished by the law. money can bring them nothing but misery.

in addition, money can not buy everything, for instance, no matter how much money one hast he can not buy good health, happiness or friendship, although money is useful in many ways, there are still a lot of things that money cant buy in the world. in addition, money can also do harm to us. if a person really thinks of money as everything and pays his attention only to money, he will lose his friends, or even the care and warmth from his family. thus, it brings him only loneliness.
