　　The "Chong Yang Festival" is celebrated on the ninth day of the ninth lunar month, and it is as such known as the Double Ninth Festival.

　　Origins: The festival began as early as the Warring States Period (475 - 221 BC). According to the yin/yang dichotomy that forms a basis to the Chinese world view, yin represents the elements of darkness and yang represents life and brightness. The number nine is regarded as yang. The ninth day of the ninth month is a double yang day, hence the name "Chong Yang Festival". (Chong means "repeat" in Chinese.) The ninth month also heralds the approach of winter. It is a time when the living need warm clothing, and filial Chinese sons and daughters extended this to make the festival a time for providing winter clothes for their ancestors. The Double Ninth Festival, therefore, also became an occasion to visit the graves of dead family members. Clothes made of paper would then be burnt as offerings.

　　Climbing mountains: On the Double Ninth Festival, people customarily climb mountains, appreciate chrysanthemum flowers, drink chrysanthemum wine, and eat double-ninth cakes. The Double Ninth Festival is also the "Old Men Festival". Old people are especially meant to improve their health by taking part in the activities on the day of the festival.

　　Review of the Pursuit of Happyness

　　The university has organized us to watch the movie the Pursuit of Happyness. The movie draws its materials from life. It portrays a man, Chris Gardner, who is walking bankruptcy, how to raise his son as a single parent and struggle to be a stock trader.

　　There is something in the world. It has no shape, no color, and no weight. It can’t be seen or touched, but everyone wants it. That’s happiness.

　　The spell of happyness in the title is wrong, which echoes a scene at the beginning of the movie. Chris noticed the word and told his son “There is an i in happiness. There is no y. It’s an i. ” It means that we should pursue happiness ourselves instead of asking why.

　　Chris Gardner hardly worked from everyday morning to night, but still couldn’t make a change. At last, his wife couldn’t endure and left away, just leaving him and their five-year-old son. What’s more, he had no money to pay for the rent. They became homeless and slept in anywhere.

　　One sentence I always hear in this movie is “Everything will be

Finally, he won in the exam to be the only formal clerk in twenty people. His tears nearly ran out when he heard the good news. Happiness came a little late for him, but better late than never.

　　Chris is a man with purpose. He encouraged his son “Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something”. It also said to himself. I also admire Christopher. 　　In our modern society, the concept of independent thought is fast becoming obsolete. These days, anyone unsure of what to think about a certain issue can simply go online or turn on the television and a host of bloggers, pundits, and analysts are ready and willing to tell them where they should stand on an important topic. Although the Internet has made sharing one's opinion much easier, it is also making it increasingly difficult to think for one's self. The old fashion way of forming an opinion, by examining the facts and shaping an opinion from them, is under fire from a news media that wants to tell us not only what is happening but how we should feel about the unfolding events. Now more than ever, the ability to think for one's self is an important skill and realize the importance of doing so.

　　The ability to think for one's self is becoming a lost art today. Too many people take the easy way out and simply allow the majority to do their thinking for them. But thinking for one's self has little to do with always going against the majority. Whether you side with the majority or not is less important than how you decided whom to side with. As long as you arrive at the conclusion by yourself and don't allow yourself to be influenced by others, you are making the right decision. Aristotle once said “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
