          Michael Jordans Retired Speech

I am here to announce my retirement from the game of basketball. It wont be another announcement to baseball or anything to that nature.

Mentally, Im exhausted; I dont feel I have a challenge. Physically, I feel great. The last time in 1993 I had other agendas. I felt that I wanted to play baseball and I felt that at my age, it was a good opportunity and time to do it. And with the death of my father, and I was basically trying to deal with that.

Actually I talked to very last year once the season ended and I told Jerry at that time, mentally, I was a little exhausted. I didnt know if I would play next year. I wanted to put him on awareness so that he could possibly prepare going into next season. And very, once we had our conversation, wanted me to take time as I did in 93 to make sure that it was the right decision because it was going to be the final decision.

I retired the first time when Phil Jackson was the coach. And I think that even with Phil being the coach I would have had a tough time , mentally finding the challenge for myself. I though he can somehow present challenges for me. I dont know if he could have presented the challenge for me to continue on to this season. Even though middle way of this season I wanted to continue to play a couple more years, but at the end of this season I was mentally drained and tired. 50 I cant say that he would have restored that.

I will support the Chicago Bulls. I think the game itself is a lot bigger than Michael Jordan. Ive been given an opportunity by people before me, to name a few, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Doctor J, Eljohn Baylor Jerry West. These guys played the game way before Michael Jordan was born and Michael Jordan came on the heels of all that activity. Mr. Stern and what hes done for the league, gave me an opportunity to play the game of basketball I played it to the best I could play it, I tried to enhance the game itself. Ive tried to be the best basketball player that I could be.

There are many dimensions to footballs allure and appeal: top-class moves, thrilling goals, majestic star players, thunderous encounters and passionate fans. Football stirs the emotions all over the globe, brings people from contrasting cultures together, and promotes solid virtues such as fairness, team spirit and tolerance. All these facets will emerge in their most intense form at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany next summer.

Germany is a cosmopolitan country with a passion for football. The people will devote themselves to the job of ensuring the 2006 FJFA World Cup is an unforgettable experience, a fact demonstrated by the thousands of ordinary folk who have come forward as volunteers.

Germany is well prepared to host the FJFA World Cup. We have finished constructing our new, modern stadiums and an outstanding transportation infrastructure. The organization is in the enormously capable hands of the Organizing Committee headed by Franz Beckenbauer. The slogan "A time to make friends" perfectly describes our intention to ensure everyone revels in a secure and peaceful festival of football.

The FIFA World Cup is a unique opportunity for Germany to present herself as a hospitable, joyful and modern nation bursting with ideas. I am convinced that the flames of passion and togetherness engendered by the FIFA World Cup in Germany will spread to the entire world.

We Germans will be right behind our national team, but our aim is to act as welcoming hosts and friends to every team and their fans. Passionate and cosmopolitan Germany is delighted to welcome visitors to the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

James Cameron: Failure is an Option, but Fear is not

And you know, along the way in this journey of discovery, I learned a lot. I learned a lot about science. But I also learned a lot about leadership. Now you think director has got to be a leader, leader of, captain of the ship, and all that sort of thing.

I didnt really learn about leadership until I did these expeditions. Because I had to, at a certain point, say, "What am I doing out here? Why am I doing this? What do I get out of it?" We dont make money at these damn shows. We barely break even. There is no fame in it. People sort of think I went away between "Titanic" and "Avatar" and was buffing my nails someplace, sitting at the beach. Made all these films, made all these documentary films for a very limited audience.

No fame, no glory, no money. What are you doing? Youre doing it for the task itself, for the challenge---and the ocean is the most challenging environment there is, for the thrill of discovery, and for that strange bond that happens when a small group of people form a tightly knit team. Because we would do these things with 10-12 people working for years at a time. Sometimes at sea for 2-3 months at a time.

And in that bond, you realize that the most important thing is the respect that you have for them and that they have for you, that youve done a task that you cant explain to someone else. When you come back to the shore and you say, "We had to do this, and the fiber optic, and the attenuation, and this and that all the technology of it, and the difficulty, the human performance aspects of working at sea, you cant explain it to people. Its that thing that maybe cops have, or people in combat that have gone through something together and they know they can never explain it. Creates a bond, creates a bond of respect."

Opportunity

The air we breathe is so freely available that we take it for granted. Yet without it we could not survive more than a few minutes.

For the most part, the same air is available to everyone, and everyone needs it. Some people use the air to sustain them while they sit around and feel sorry for themselves. Others breathe in the air and use the energy to make a magnificent life for themselves.

Opportunity is the same way. It is everywhere. Opportunity is so freely available that we take it for granted.

Yet opportunity alone is not enough to create success. Opportunity must be the seized and acted upon in order to have value. So many people are so anxious to "get in on the ground floor" of opportunity, as if the opportunity will do all the work. That’s impossible.

Just as you need air to breathe, you need opportunity to succeed. It takes more than just breathing in the fresh air of opportunity, however. You must make use of that opportunity. That’s not up to the opportunity. That’s up to you. It doesn’t matter what "floor" the opportunity is on. What matters is what you do with it.

Catch the Star That Will Take You t

Catch the star that holds your destiny, the one that forever twinkles within your heart. Take advantage of precious opportunities while they still sparkle before you. Always believe that your ultimate goal is attainable as long as you commit yourself to it.

Though barriers may sometimes stand in the way of your dreams, remember that your destiny is hiding behind them. Accept the fact that not everyone is going to approve of the choices you’ve made, have faith in your judgment, catch the star that twinkles in your heart, and it will lead you to your destiny’s path. Follow that pathway and uncover the sweet sunrises that await you.

Take pride in your accomplishments, as they are stepping stones to your dreams. Understand that you may make mistakes, but don’t let them discourage you. Value your capabilities and talents for they are what make you truly unique. The greatest gifts in life are not purchased, but acquired through hard work and determination.

Find Yourself

Who are we? That is the first question. It’s a question that’s almost impossible to answer.

But we all agree that one’s busy or daily self is not quite one’s real self. We’re quite sure that we’ve lost something in the course of just making our living.。

A crowd is watching a person running about looking for something in a field, and a wise man asks, “What has that person lost?” Someone may guess a watch, another a diamond ring. When everyone has guessed, the wise man who like everyone else there has no idea, says, “I’ll tell you one thing for sure. He’s lost some breath.”

And no one can deny that he’s right. The point is that we often forget our true selves in pursuit of things that are external1 to us, like a bird forgetting its own danger in pursuit of a mantis, which in turn forgets its own danger in pursuit of some other prey.

Relieving hunger with a picture of cakes

Once in the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280), the duke of the Wei, Cao Rui, planed to select a very capable man to work for him. He said to his ministers: When choosing a talented person, always beware of one with a false reputation. A false reputation is just like a picture of a cake; it can t ease hunger.

moral:Later, this idiom came to be used to mean comforting oneself with unrealistic thoughts, without solving practical problems.

Make use of the novelty of your

Make use of the novelty of your position, For people are valued while they are new. Novelty pleases all because it is uncommon, taste is refreshed, and a brand new mediocrity is thought more of than accustomed excellence.

Ability wears away by use and become old. However, know that the glory of novelty is short lived after four days respect is gone. Accordingly, learn to utilize the first fruits of appreciation, and seize during the rapid passage of applause all that can be put to use.

For once the heat of novelty is over, the passion cools and the appreciation of novelty is exchanged for distaste at the customary. Believe that everything has its season., which soon passes.

Begin Again

One of the best things we can do in our lives is this: Begin again。Begin to see yourself as you were When you were the happiest and strongest you’d ever been

Begin to remember what worked for you (and what worked against you),And try to make things work again。Remember how natural it was when you were a child —To live a lifetime each day

Begin to forget about the troubles you have carried with you for years: The problems that don’t matter any more, The tears that cried themselves away. And the worries that are going to wash away. On the shore of tomorrow’s new beginnings

Tomorrow tells us it will be here every new day of our lives; And if we are wise,We will turn away from the problems of the past。And give the future —and ourselves —a chance,To become the best of friends,Sometimes all it takes is a wish in the heart to let yourself Begin again。

It is not easy to think positive thoughts when the world around you appears to be so negative. In fact, it can be as difficult as anything you’ve ever done. However, it is absolutely possible to fill your mind with positive thoughts no matter what the environment is. Doing so makes you powerful like nothing else can.

To think positively is to alignyourselfwith1 the truth that you’re immersed2 in limitless, growing abundance. To think positively is to pleasantly accept that your life is full of meaningful and unique achievements.

Instead of placing a judgement on your situation, apply your most positive purposes to that situation. Instead of seeing the world as negative, see yourself as a powerful agent of the positive possibilities.

If you find yourself giving in to negativity4, you are selling yourself short. The moment you feel the slightest pain of a negative thought, stop and remind yourself how powerful you are. Do the intentional work of keeping your thoughts positive. Because whatever you always think is where your life will surely and steadily go.
