2. Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, writing and thinking ability.
3. Help to form correct attitude to foreign cultures.

Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Lead-in
1. Listen to the song Auld Lane Syne to arouse students’ interest.
2. Ask and answer the question:
How do Chinese people greet each other in formal situations?
Step 2. Picture Talking
1. Talk about the four pictures in pairs or groups focusing on the ways of specific greetings.
2. Ask and answer the questions:
1) Why do you think that people in different countries greet each other in different ways?
2) Can you think of any other customs that are different in different parts of the world?
Step 3. Further thinking
Though many foreigners are awkward with chopsticks, more and more foreigners are learning how to use them. What does this imply?
Step 4. Group Discussion
Originally, Christmas Day was not celebrated by Chinese people. But now more and more Chinese young people are crazy about this festival and they spent a lot of time and money on it. Do you support the move or not? Why?
Step 5. Homework
Write a composition about the result of the discussion.
