        A teaching plan for Unit 3,Module11

        一、Teaching materials:

        Unit 3 Language in use (Module 11 National heroes)

        二、Targets for this period:

        To summarize and consolidate past simple wh-questions and the new vocabulary

        三、Key points:

        Key vocabulary- as, the next, travel to a place, sick people

        Key structures-What did…? When did…? How did…? Why didn’t…?

        Step One Warming-up (Module task)

        1. Tell how to talk about a person

        Start: something about his/her life … was born…lived…worked…

        Middle: what he/she did When he/she was 25,he/she… In 1975he/she…

        End: why you like him/her I think he/she is great because…

        2. Students give a talk about hero in the front of the blackboard

        Step Two To learn about Mother Teresa (Around the world)

        1. Students read the passage and ask and answer questions in pairs.

        1) When was she born? She was born in 1910.

        2) When did she start to work as a teacher? She started to work as a teacher in 1928.

        3) Who did she help? She helped sick people.

        4) How old was she when she died? She died at the age of 87.

        2. Students read it aloud.

        3. Detail explanation:

        1) travel to India = go to India

        2) as (prep.) 作為

        e.g: We must work hard as a student. 作為學生,我們必須努力學習。

        My brother works in Beijing as a teacher. 我哥哥在北京當老師。

        3) sick people = people who are ill

        4. Students give a talk about Mother Teresa in groups of four.

        Step Three Vocabulary learning (Activity 3 & 4)

        1. Students put the given words into the correct columns

        3. Words explanation:

        1) land (vi.)著陸 land on the island

        (vt.)使著陸 land an airplane

        (n.) 陸地 on the land

        2) next 指從現(xiàn)在算起的下一個,常與將來時連用。

        the next 從過去某個時間算起的下一個,常與過去時連用。

        e.g. What will you do next week?

        The next day he went to the town.

        Step Four To write questions (Activity 1)

        1. Give the example questions about Soviet Union:

        1) When did the first Soviet astronaut go into space?

        2) Who was the first Soviet astronaut?

        3) How old was the first Soviet astronaut when he went into space?

        4) What was the Soviet spacecraft called?

        5) How long did the first Soviet space flight last?

        6) How high did the first Soviet spacecraft reach?

        7) How many times did Yuri Gagarin orbit the Earth?

        2. Students write questions about the USA and China by themselves.

        3. Students ask and answer the questions in pairs. (Activity 2)

        Step Five To translate the sentences into English.

        1. 為什么中國政府不想讓外國工程師建筑那條鐵路?

        Why didn’t the Chinese government want foreign engineers to build the railroad?

        2. 你認為昨晚的電影怎樣?

        What did you think of the film last night?
