Teaching steps
1. Warming-up and revision
(1) Before the class , get the Ss listen to a song and follow it. And then get them chant, make up another similar chant.
(2) Daily greetings to the students
T: Good morning!
Ss: Good morning! Miss Chen.
T: What day is it today?
Ss: It’s Thursday.
T: What’s the date today?
Ss: It’s December 8th, …etc.
T: What’s the weather like today?
Ss: It’s sunny/cloudy/…,etc.
Write the students’ answers on the blackboard.
(3) Revision
I. (chain work) T talks with some students randomly. T: I’m an English teacher. I can teach you English. Can you teach me English? Ss: No, I/we can’t. T: What can you do? S1: I can play football. Repeat the questions above with other individual student. After that, T Presents sports things and other things that Ss have learned on the screen. T asks one student : Can you play basketball ? S1: Yes, I can. Can he …? S2: yes, he can. Can you… S3: No, he can’t .Can you…?
II. (Action work) T uses some real sports objects , e.g. T plays a basketball, get Ss to ask : What can you do Can you play basketball? T: Yes, I can. Then get several students to do action before the class, get Ss to ask: Can you swim/play ping-pong/sing/dance…? The student who does the action should answer: Yes, I can . T asks: What club do you want to join ?S1:Can you play it well? The student: yes, I can. /No, I can’t. Then, T asks the other Ss: Can he/she swim/play ping-pong/sing/dance…? Ss: yes, he/she can. T: Can he/she play it well? Ss: yes, he/she can. /No, he/she can’t. (Divide Ss into four groups, have a match.)
III. T: Now, let’s have a guessing competition. (divide Ss into four groups). Get Ss look at the screen and ask the questions like the following: Can he/she…? At last, the group which gets the most right answers wins the game.
IV. After the game, T : yes, group x, I think you do a good job at guessing , congratulations! Now, Watch the screen again, look at this girl/boy, can he dance? Ss: yes, he can . T: Can he/she dance well? Ss: yes, he/she can. Then get Ss practice in pairs.
2. Presentation
T: So, I know , … many of you can do many things , you can play basketball, you can swim , you can dance. Maybe you can do it well, maybe not. So , what club do you want to join? T present different clubs on the screen and say: Oh, there’re so many clubs. Let’s see. (get the class read out the name’s of clubs) .
T: What club do you want to join? Do you know? Some of you will say: oh, I don’t know.
S: I can play the guitar.
T: What club do you want to join?
S: I want to join the music club.
T: What about you?(to the other students)

T: Now you are middle school students. You can swim. You can sing. You can do many things. But they can’t. They are only kids.(show a picture of a group of kids to the students) They are going to Beidaihe. But there aren’t enough teachers. Are you good with kids? Do you want to join them?
