        3. To get the main idea of the passage and get to know the purpose of the author

        1. Improve the students’reading ability

        2. Learn and master the follwing expressions:

        keep sb./sth from doing sth,die out ,take measures to do sth,adapt to sth.

        3. Let the students know the importance of protecting environment

        Teaching Difficult Points:

        1.How to help the students understand the text better

        2. Learn how to use these new words and expressions as well as difficult sentences:

        keep sb./sth from doing sth ,die out ,take measures,adapt to

        Teaching Methods:

        1. Fast reading to find out the main idea of the text

        2. Question-and –answer activity to help the student to understand the detailed information in the text

        3. Individual or pair work to make every student work in class

        Teaching Aids:

        1. a tape recorder

        2 some pictures of animals

        Teaching Procedure:

        Step I Greetings and lead-in

        Greet the students as usual and then show some pictures and talk about the endangered animals they know. Then answer the following question: Why are they endangered ? Are we endangered ?

        Step II .Pre-reading

        Ask the students to discuss the following questions:

        1. How do plants and animals live together ?

        2. What do human being need to survive?

        3. What do plants and animals need to survive?

        Step III.Reading

        1.Fast reading

        1.First ask the students to read the passage quickly and find out the main idea of each paragraph

        2. play the tape and say “True” or “False” to the following statements according to the passage.

        1). We often take good care of ourselves and planet according to what Steve Jones said.(F)

        2). According to Steve Jones we often talk about how important it is to take care of our planet .(T)

        3) If we introduce a new species to a place ,all of the species there will become endangered.(F)

        4) There are few things we can do to help . (F)

        5) Steve Jones is confident for the future of human beings (T)

        1. Careful reading

        Read the passage slowly and carefully,then answer the following questions:

        1. Why do animals and plants become endangered ?

        2. What can we do to protect animals and plants that are being endangered?

        Step IV Post –reading

        1. Explanation

        Teacher explains the following language points ,and use them to make some sentences:

        1. keep sb./sth. from doing sth.=stop sb./sth.from doing =prevent sb./sth.from doing sth.

        eg. The traffic kept us from arriving there on time.

        2.die out =disappear forever

        eg. Some plants have died out in the world .

        3 .take measures to do sth.:to take/use ways to solve problems

        eg.You should take effective measures to improve your working conditions.

        4.adapt to sth.:learn sth.to deal with chang

        eg. You should try your best to adapt to the new environment.

        2.Retelling the text.

        Ask the students to retell the text according to the main idea of each Paragraph and some key words.

        Step V Summary and Homework.

        Summarize what they have learned and write a short article about how to protect the environment
