T:In this class,we'll do some exercises first.Then we'll learn a dialogue.Now,please look at the screen.Make sentences using the words and expressions on the screen.

Step Ⅱ.Preparation for Dialogue
T:Please look at the screen.Let's learn some new words and expressions first.

T:Today,we're going to learn a dialogue.First,I want to ask you a question.Do you know the French Revolution?

T:OK.I give you a brief introduction.It broke out in July,1789.In the revolution,the poor of the cities and the peasants in the country rose up against the French king and the rich.In the country,the revolutionaries set fire to the nobles'castles and burnt them to the ground.The nobles caught many people and put them into prison.Now,let's listen to the tape and try to answer the questions on the screen.

T:Now,who can answer the first question?
S:He wanted to go into the castle.
T:(To the other students.)Do you agree?
Ss:Yes.
T:Now,who knows the answer to the second question?
S:A servant.
T:Good.Please sit down.

T:Now,open your books and turn to Page 55,please.Read the dialogue quietly and then answer the questions on the screen.
T:OK.That's all for the questions.While you were reading the dialogue,you might find some of the sentences difficult to understand.Now,look at the screen.I'll explain them to you to help you understand the dialogue better.

T:Now,listen to the tape again.This time you can listen and follow.After that practise the dialogue in pairs.

T:Good.Now,let's do Part 2 on Page 55.Look at the first sentence in the left part.“She did not recognize me”.Why didn't she recognize me?Find the answer in the right part of the box.Who finds it?OK.Wang Fei,you try,please.
S:She can't have been the right person.
T:It's right.It means that I or you think that she wasn't the right person.So “she didn't recognize me at that time.”Now,please do the exercise in pairs.Later,we'll ask some pairs to act it out.

In sentence (2),there are two actions.One is “returned to France”,and the other is “was put in prison”.Which happened first?
Ss:The action “returned to France”happened first.
T:That's right.Now,let's look at sentence (1).In this sentence,two things happened or were true at the same time.While in the second sentence one thing happened first and then another thing happened.When two things happen at the same time,or almost at the same time in one sentence,we often use the following structures:
v.-ing(phrase),main clause
or:main clause,v.-ing (phrase)

While one thing happens first,the other happens later,we usually use the following structures:
having done,main clause
or:main clause,having done
