        Step 1 Revision

        1. Ask some Ss to act out their speaking dialogues.

        2. Ask the students to put the following into English.

        (1) 火車聲淹沒了她的聲音。

        (2) 我不能阻止你離開。

        (3) 紙很容易著火。

        (4) 確保電線是安全的而且孩子們也碰不到。

        Answers: (1) The noise of the train drowned her voice.

        (4) Make sure that electric wires are safe and that children can’t touch them.

        Step 2 Reading

        1. Pre-reading

        2. Fast-reading : Read the text as fast as possible and try to find out which outline is used in the passage.

        3. Careful-reading

        (1) Reading for detail and tell the main points of each paragraph.

        Parag1: The importance of giving first aid.

        Parag2: The importance of staying calm

        Parag3: The meaning of DR

        Parag4: The meaning of ABC

        Parag5: What to do after checking the DR ABC

        Parag6: What we should do after giving first aid

        (2) Found out the answer to the following questions:

        a. Why is first aid important in our daily life?

        b. What’s the most important thing to remember when dealing with an emergence?

        c. What do the hospitals recommend?

        d. What do the letters “DR ABC” stand for?

        e. What we should do when we have checked the DR ABC?

        f. Can we do first aid correctly after reading this passage?

        (3) Retell the text using about 100 words.

        Listen to the tape and underline the sentences with the Subjunctive Mood.

        5. stay calm 保持鎮(zhèn)定 stay為系動詞, calm為形容詞 類似用法:

        eg. He stay single all his life.

        6. recommend 建議;推薦

        eg. I recommend that you (should) resign.

        She was strongly recommended for the post.

        7. first of all = ranking above all others 首先

        eg. First of all tell us your name.

        First of all, he wrote out a long list of all the food which is forbbiden.

        8. on the way 即將到來

        eg. The food you ordered is on the way.

        We are in January now. The Spring Festival is on the way.

        9. circulation n. 循環(huán);(貨幣,消息等的)流通,傳播;(報刊等的)發(fā)行

        eg. He has a bad circulation.

        This book is no longer in circulation.

        the circuation of news, information,rumours

        10. make things/matters worse使事情更糟 to make things worse = worse still更糟的是(插入語)

        eg. I realized that anything I could say would only make things worse.

        He may be late. To make things worse (Worse still), he may not come at all.

        11. roll over 翻身,打滾

        eg. The goat rolled over and died.

        Every time he rolled over,he pulled over more of the bedclothes to his side.
