        I.Teaching Demands and Aims:

        1.Train the students’ reading ability.

        2.Learn the following phrases:

        a series of, be in trouble, come across, fight against, succeed, share, believe in.

        3.Master the main idea of Harry porter.

        4.Retelling the text.

        5.Make the student be brave and help each others and let them know that they must believe in themselves. If they want to be happy, they must have a strong will, be confident and often help others. They must share the happiness and sorrow with their friends.

        II.Teaching Importance:

        1.The new words and phrases:

        come across, something happens (to sb), become a student = turn student, be in trouble, believe in, a series of, look like, share

        2.Mastering the main idea of Harry Potter and retelling it.

        3.Moral education: We must be confident and also help others if we want to be happy and live a good life.

        III.Teaching Difficulty:

        Retelling or rewriting the text.

        IV.Teaching Methods

        1.Listening activity to help the students to get the main idea of each paragraph.

        2.Questinging – and answering activity to help the students to go through the whole passage.

        3.Pair work or group work to make every student work in class.

        V.Teaching Aids:

        1. a piece of paper with some exercises.

        2. a video player

        I ) The brief clue of the teaching procedure:

        Step1. Greetings(0.3m)

        Step2. Revision and lead-in(5m)

        Step3. About the writer JK Rowling(2m)

        Step4. Fast reading: read the text fast and find the answers to the questions(4m)

        Step5. Read the text again and finish Exercise 1 in the paper(4m)

        Step6. Listening :the topic sentence of each paragraph(7m)

        Step7. Finish Exercise 2 in the paper.(4m)

        Step8. Discussion in pairs(7m)

        Step9. Retelling(10m)

        Step10. Homework(2m)

        II) The teaching procedure in detail

        Step1. Greetings:

        Greet the whole class as usual.

        T say: Hello ! Every one!

        Step2. Revision and lead-in

        T say: I have a piece of good news for you. There is a film that is worth seeing . It’s very interesting and exciting. Do you want to go with me to see the film? I would like to invite you to enjoy it. Now we need to get some information about the cost and the time about seeing it.

        OK, please look at the picture(show the students the picture )

        Ask: Can you guess what the boy is doing?

        (Yes, he is a wizard. He is riding a broomstick.).

        T ask: Do you know the name of the film?

        (show the students the playbill)

        T say: The name of the film is Harry Potter

        T ask: It’s full of adventure and excitement.

        T: ask: How much will it cost you?

        (10yuan each, 5yuan for groups according to the playbill)

        T ask: When can we enjoy it?

        (7 o’clock this evening)

        T say: Now we can enjoy a part of the video about Harry Potter.

        (Show the students the video about Harry Potter)

        T say: OK, before we go to see the film tonight, let’s learn sth about the story and the writer. Please turn to Page 80.

        Step3 about the writer JK Rowling:

        T say: Now please read the first paragraph and find out who wrote the stories of Harry Potter

        (show the students the pictures and the video about JK Rowling)

        T say: Let’s enjoy the video about JK Rowling.

        Step4 Fast reading

        1.What does the first paragraph tell us about Harry Potter?

        Harry Potter is a boy with a scar on his forehead and a secret past.

        2.when does his life change?

        When a bird tells him to go to Hogwarts and become a student of witchcraft and wizardry.

        3. What does the Hagwarts teach the students?

        Magic or wizardry.

        Step5 Dealing with Exercise 1 in the paper

        Please read the text again and finish Exercise 1 in the paper.

        Step6. Listening :the topic sentence of each paragraph

        T say: Please listen to the text carefully and find out the key sentences of each paragraph.

        Step7. Finish Exercise 2 in the paper.

        Step8. Discussion in pairs:

        T say: Now you have 3 minutes to discuss the questions. Then please tell us your ideas about the questions.

        Step9. Retelling(10m)

        T say: Please retell the text in your own words using the phrases if necessary. (Let the students have enough time to prepare for it)

        1. T say: Today the first part of your homework is letter writing. Please write a letter to Harry Potter. You can ask him any questions or give him some tips about life. Maybe you can learn something about magic from him.

        2. T say: The second part of your homework is to bring one or two novels that can let you learn the real world and share them with your classmates.
